TikTok is banned in the US: The app could be unavailable on Sunday
The US government plans to remove TikTok from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store in the first phase of the ban. However, ByteDance does not intend to wait for this decision and instead intends to close the app completely. Users will see a warning message when they open the app and will be informed about how they can download their data.
ByteDance has stated that it is ready to quickly reopen the platform if the ban is lifted. However, no official statement has been made by TikTok or ByteDance so far. US President Joe Biden signed a bill into law last April, citing concerns about national security and the protection of user data.
TikTok argues that the law violates the First Amendment (freedom of speech). The company predicts that a one-month access block could lead to around 57 million users in the US abandoning the platform. Users in the US have begun to turn to alternative platforms in the event of a possible ban.
One of these is RedNote, which is entirely Chinese and subject to strict censorship laws. According to preliminary data, more than 700,000 Americans have registered with RedNote. But this raises new questions about how user data will be protected.
